One particular troll went nuts on my last piece on Odometers. He is a used car salesman who apparently trolls everyone who writes for Car Buying. During my exchange with him, I noticed he got particularly agitated when I mentioned having LOTS of stories about bad car dealers and his argument with me inspired me to tell more of them.

So here it is: The first podcast inspired by and dedicated to Bad Car Dealers. If nothing else, listen to the first two minutes.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

But if you like car stories, you will like this. I guarantee it. Just like a bad car dealer. "This podcast is in perfect condition. But if you don't listen now, someone else will come along and snap it up. Let me go talk to my manager. I think we can get you a deal if you will listen right now."

Enough to make me rethink my stance on podcasts. Excellent stuff!

my first listen to Lehto's Law podcast, I said it when you became a jalopnik writer and I'll say it again (even if it makes no sense in this context).

Official Lehto is best Lehto.

I particularly liked the incident where the judge told the opposing attorney he should probably settle.

Thanks! I did radio a long time ago so for me, they are a lot of fun. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I can picture it vividly. It was a very funny conference (from our perspective).

You are a True British Hero. And an Honorary True American Hero! (What can I say? We use the term "Hero" over here quite a bit.)

we use it here way too much, I have been to Florida though (depending on who you speak to, that is considered part of america!).

Florida is, as we say, "special." If you visit, stick to the beaches or the theme parks. Minimize your time driving (Florida drivers are the worst) and try to get in before dark. Very very strange things happen in Florida after dusk, usually involving guns, alcohol, cars, and a wildcard [raccoon, dumpster, sibling, couch . . . etc]. Those stories always end with a goofy mugshot and a national headline.

well, now I know how to pronounce your name - LAY-toe, got it.

I went around halloween this year, a kid got mown down by a car, a double drive by shooting happened, Disney Magic Kingdom caught fire, a lady tried to kill herself and her kids with bleach. Standard stuff I imagine.

I like reading your articles because car laws are completely different here and it's good to compare.

You are correct. In Finland, they would say it with a short "e" and they actually pronounce the "h". LEH - toe. It's hard to say it that way though. I gave up years ago.

I keep forgetting that all you guys have only seen it in print. Yes, LAY-toe. I tell people the "eh" is a Canadian "Eh" like, "That was a good shot on goal, eh?"

that was how I was pronouncing it in my head. Dont worry, I have one of the easiest German last names to say and I think it has been pronounced correctly about 5 times in my 35 years walking around this green earth, regardless of how many times people saw the god damn Sound of Music

I'm from Detroit so the "Eh" is actually something that has crossed the border. Some say it came from Minnesota but that is another story altogether.

Amazingly, people often misspell my name as Letho, switching the H and the T. But luckily, no one ever says LETHO. A weird phenomenon. I was on the radio for years and would always get the other reaction - when I told people how to spell it. Hearing LAY-toe, most people would not have guessed right. Except for the .00000001% of the audience that was Finnish.

Oddly if I had heard it I would have gotten it correct. Lol are you sure there is even .00000001% Finnish in Michigan?

In the Upper Peninsula of MICH (500 mile drive from Detroit) there is a huge Finnish population - the largest outside of Finland. They have Finnish language TV programs and the street signs in one town are in Finnish and English. That is where my family is from originally (both my parents are fluent in Finnish).

Of course, my radio shows were in lower Michigan. There are a few Finns down here but they tend to be quiet so you never know.

I do enjoy your stories! I usually don't have to worry about elderly litigants given my practice, but did have an older couple sue one of my clients once for "costing" them their travel agency business. A lot of their business was fed govt related, so I did a FOIA request and got a bunch of info they didn't know I had (lawyer failed to make the right doc request), all of which demonstrated that they didn't get their contracts renewed because they were (a) expensive and (b) incompetent. At the mediation, I basically took them through all this stuff because I knew I didn't want to do it at a trial. The woman, who seriously looked like my grandmother, starts crying uncontrollably. We settled cheaply (probably paid more than we should have given the evidence), but I still felt horribly for doing my job.

That's tough but I understandable. I've had cases like that where you ask yourself how you are going to look if you "beat up" a witness too badly. Sometimes you have to but you wonder if it will backfire (and how you might feel after).

What state are you in?

Regarding the used car salesman troll - he (or she) should understand that, for people like me, having a root canal is more enjoyable than purchasing a car from a dealer. There are legitimate reasons for this, and some of them involve lawbending and lawbreaking by unseemly dealers.

Hence the need for someone like Lehto, who has a particular set of skills that he has acquired over a long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like the used car salesman troll...

Nice. I have friends who went there but I went to Southwestern in LA. Did it the other way around. Warm weather for school and then returned to Michigan.
